AUSTRALIA

Harold Holt became Prime Minister following the resignation of Sir Robert Menzies after 16 years as PM.

Police were baffled by the disappearance of the Beaumont children in Adelaide.

Australia dropped pounds, shillings and pence in favour of decimal currency.

Swede designer of Sydney's opera House, Joem Utzon, quit.

The first Australian conscripts fought in the Vietnam War. Many Australians died in the battle of Lon Tan.
